- The right to be treated as any mother should be treated, with dignity and respect.
- The right to be involved in all parts of the adoption planning.
- The right to choose the family who will raise your child.
- The right to choose prospective adoptive parents who have been approved; who have met all the legal requirements of the adoption process.
- The right to view as many prospective adoptive parent profiles as possible when choosing an adoptive family for your child.
- The right to meet and to ask questions of the adopting family in order to make the best decision for you and your child.
- The right to receive identifying information before placing your child with the adopting family.
- The right to receive counselling and support throughout the adoption process before and ongoing, after your baby’s birth.
- The right to have your newborn child temporarily placed with a specialized infant caregiver while you continue with decision-making and tasks relating to the adoption process.
- The right to spend time with your baby at birth and until you decide to entrust the physical care of your child to the adoptive family of your choosing.
- The right to expect an open, honest and ongoing relationship with the adopting family.
- The right to request contact with the adopting family through ongoing information, letters, emails, picture exchanges, phone calls and visits.
