SAFE Baby Training Opportunity

The Adoptive Families Association of BC, the Ministry of Children and Family Development, and BC’s licensed adoption agencies, are pleased to announce a new specialized education program that specifically meets the needs of people considering the adoption of a substance exposed infant.

The sessions are free of charge and families registered with the MCFD or one of BC’s adoption agencies are welcome to attend. Please see the attached flyer for contact and registration information. Below is a brief outline as to what will be covered in the sessions.

SAFE Baby Training is a pilot project for prospective adoptive families registered with either the Ministry for Children and Family Development or one of B.C.'s licensed adoption agencies.

Hope Adoption Services encourages anyone registered with Hope and who is interested in considering adopting substance exposed infants to attend SAFE Baby Training.

Attendance at this course will reflect well in your preparedness to parent a child that has been prenatally exposed to drugs &/or alcohol.

The following is a sampling of what will be covered in the SBT curriculum:

·        FAS

·        NAS

·        Infant Development

·        Public Health System

·        Support Services (relevant to the region)

·        Self Care

·        Household Safety

·        Car Safety

·        Purple Crying Study:  a study that revealed there is a pattern of   crying for babies that is apparent across all cultures.

·        Dental Health

·        Mental Health

CPR is not included in the Fraser Region’s Training. Attendees will be provided with information on where they can access CPR Training.
