Recently there has been a lot of coverage on the Chinese media that melamine, a toxic substance when consumed, has been detected in some infant formula produced in China. Jingding brand formula was found to contain the chemical melamine (causing kidney stone/kidney problem). Sounds like not all batches of the 22 listed brand formula were contaminated. For instance, for Jinding brand formula, among the 3 samples tested so far, 1 sample contained the chemical melamine.
I realize that some SWIs use Sanlu infant formula, and many SWIs in Guangdong feed Jingding formula to babies. If your child proposal information indicated that your child was fed Sanlu or Jingding brand formula, as a precautionary measure, you may want to take your child to do some tests. Please consult with your child's physician to determine what kinds of tests are required.
If your child proposal information did not mention the formula brand name, you may still want to take your child to do some tests. Please consult with your child's physician
Apparently, well known foreign brand baby formula (such as Infalac, Nestle) produced in China were found containing no melamine.
