British Columbia residents
- Couples legally married not less than two years
- Evidence of:
- Marital stability
- Well defined problem solving skills
- Ability to adapt to new situations and experiences
- Good understanding of own/spouse’s strengths and weaknesses
- Financial stability - based on past and current employment history
- Medically and emotionally healthy - without a known illness that would jeopardize either parent’s ability to raise a child to adulthood
- Criminal records checks and Ministry for Children & Families prior contact checks must be current
- Attendance at required Hope Adoption Services’ adoption preparation seminars
NOTE: Hope Adoption Services is operated by a charitable non-profit society whose members are Christian. Many birthparents and adoptive applicants are aware of this and it may affect their choices. However, eligibility for service by this agency is in no way affected by one’s religious beliefs.
INTERCOUNTRY
Eligibility is same as with Domestic, with the exception of:
- Couples legally married not less than two years
These requirements will depend on the country chosen. Some countries will accept single and common-law applicants while others will not. Family size as well as age of applicants, may be dictated by the policy of the particular country.
